Reincarnation, gaming world, and kickstarter.com

Posted by LiLg - May 14th, 2012

2012 has kicked me in the teeth so many times already that I'll have to get dentures before June. I haven't made a single dime making games, and it was something that I was really enjoying the past couple of years. It seems that flash games aren't getting the same kind of sponsor funding that they use to be over the last two years, and i think that's mostly to the lack of Revenue coming in to these sponsors. It's a shame really. Nothing brings me more joy than to release a Flash to people on newgrounds and other places, but it's hard to survive when no money is coming into the project.

However, I released my new Reincarnation game today without a sponsor backing it. I felt 5 month into the year was long enough without releasing something. It was almost as though I was in a small depression without the aid of the joy I get from releasing something on Newgrounds.

I'm not saying that I'm giving up on the whole sponsorship of games, but I think it's time I start looking for real work to hold me over so I'm not burying myself deeper into a money pit.

Ok enough of being frustrated.... time for the fun stuff...

The reason i released Bloody Bayou today was to promote my Kickstarter.com campaign for a game I've been working on over the past year. I tired to start this campaign last year at this same time but didn't really have anything to show for it and felt it needed some hard work before showing it to the public again. It also motivated me to relaunch the project when double fine and leisure suit Larry hit goals of over $600,000 with games of the same genre. So, if you are feeling generous and would like to see this project in all of it's Evil glory, please fund it here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1878730846/r eincarnation-the-root-of-all-evil

kickstarter accepts paypal?

I don't think so. it's pretty lame they don't...

I hope after release there will be some collectors editions with some extra features.

Have you tried advertising yourself as a game maker for commission? This being an election year especially, it might be a good way to "have a real job" without losing that joy of creation.

Here's some examples of what I mean:

<a href="http://www.stopdisastersgame.org/">http://www.stopdisastersgame.org/</a>
<a href="http://www.3rdworldfarmer.com/">http://www.3rdworldfarmer.com/</a>

I don't mean to be sanctimonious or anything, I don't know shit about making games for a living, but it seems to me that if people can commission art on dead tree format online, you should be able to sell your talents as a game maker.

Cheers.

Now, just as a question from one fellow game maker to another.
Do you think it would help you if I let's played the series for people to see(promote the project at the same time)?
Let me know if you think it would help, it wouldn't do much but at-least it's a push.
best wishes.
