I need to find a real job.

Posted by LiLg - April 3rd, 2009

Yeah. I said it. It's been almost a year since I've had a real job working for da MAN. I was doing alright doing my freelance gigs but this silly economy is really taking a toll on me. Seems no one needs animations or stills anymore for stuff down here in New Orleans and the saddest thing is; I can't find a job down here either. I've put my resume out there and no takers. Come on! I'm a college graduate. Shoot! I guess the real moral of the story, kids, is never leave school!

All the animation is done for Reincarnation 2: ROA, but I'm still waiting on a coder.

Also. I'm finishing up my Pico day submission next week. I hope y'all enjoy.

I need to find a real job.

pico meets muppets and friends

Jobs are boring though.

Yeah. True story. However, I need money coming in and not just going out. :(

you should consider registering yourself to a talent agency / job placement recruiter. They have always been very good to me, ive turned down many jobs from them and its free and they do all the legwork.

How do I go about doing that? It's something I'd look into for sure.

Real jobs are for chumps... which is why I find them quite necessary in my own life... 'doh. There are some decent Flash jobs over here in L.A. though.

Yeah but then I gotta move away from friends and family and I heard it cost a bunch to live out there.

it sucks but you might have to bite the bullet and grab a retail gig somewhere.

I did half of the art for pico 2 while working as a fulltime manager at blockbuster.

its sucks sure but you gotta do what you gotta do

Yeah. I may just have to go get a job at some store for the time being. The only thing that sucks is it takes a lot of time away from me working on my toons and junk.

just get like a job at arbys or a coffee shop or something, so you can draw on the side and still have a job.

I just hate the idea of going back to work at a coffee shop lol

try to aim for some kind of watcher-job, where you can bring your laptop and work while working :)
i used to work with mentally handicapped dudes and dudettes, and when i had the night-watches, i was able to make music all night. it didnt turn out all too well for the most parts, but at least i got something out of it, more than cash. :)

Rucklo has a point. I spent a few years as a substitute teacher when I was in Mass and for a few months after I moved. It was a job that was extremely satisfying and there were a number of classes where I could just sit there and draw while the kids read.

Yeah I've been looking for a teachers job but no luck there. They only really looking for music and math teachers here. I'm not good at either so it'll be embarrassing when the little tikes show me up lol.

I had an awesome job lined up where I sat around and did nothing all day but got screwed out of it.

You HAVE a job! Making Movies for Dumbass, Ungrateful, Geeky 14 year-olds.......Thinking you dont have a god damn job

can't wait to see this Pico submission

also

desk jobs are da shit

I wouldn't get ya hopes up. I seem to let people down a lot. lol

i agree with mindchamber gettin a retail gig is the best job u can find this moment

That is some damn fine artwork, you drawing with a tablet yeah? Please gimme some tips like what smoothing to use and stuff, honestly that looks amazin and Im having a hard time tranistioning from anartist on paper to art in flash.

I use Smoothing: 42. But then i go back and correct the vector lines if I'm not 80% satisfied with the outcome.

Damn, Pico looks weird.

I wonder who the writer is. Must be one handsome man!

Go work at a McDonalds.

I don't wanna get fat. Otherwise i would lol DARN THOSE TASTY FRIES!

Thanks mate, good luck in the job search!

If you're really despirate, you can always work on a brick and mortar construction site with me and my dad. Then again, working out in the heat isn't for everyone.

Ha. Thanks man but I don't think I'd do very well as a brick and mortar person. Trying to find a easy job so I can come home and still work on animations.

If you're desperate for cash and need a steady income ASAP, go find a temporary job. If you live in New Orleans, I can almost guarantee you some place somewhere is hiring.

If you're not desperate, and you're not having luck finding a job yourself, there should definitely be companies and services in your city that offer to assist you in finding a job for the skills that you have. Search the phone book, ask people you know, or google to find one.

Also, call companies who you think could use your skills, and just ask if they could use whatever you do. If they're interested, give them something to look at -- a site to showcase your creations (deviantart, newgrounds, etc.), or a resume (online or offline -- both would be handy).

Good luck. If you're a college graduate, you shouldn't be in the gutter too long. We're in a recession, but there are still jobs out there. If we were in a depression, that might be a different story.

Yeah I could give that a Try but I don't think I'm a very good salesman. That would be the one thing holding me back from doing that.

I have some cardboard boxes and gloves with the fingers cut out if you need them.
wait... no, I don't mean that. I hope you find work soon.

Dude, bums have the life though. As long as it isn't cold...

get a job somewhere where you get free stuff. like a ice cream shop or a sandwich place or a pen store some kind of thing like that, or if your that kinda guy go to a grocery store and be a box boy and just have a few things "fall" out of the boxs and in to your pocket. I dont know just some ideas

You should call Robert Half International in Seattle ("The Creative Group" is in the same office space with them). They spent a really long time trying to get me to take on of the legions of unfilled flash jobs out here, even though I have no real flash experience, no flash work history, no real skillset in flash, and no degree. I know they fill jobs with Popcap and other smaller game companies for animation and drawing etc as well. It's worth sending in your resume and giving them a clean page with some of your work on it. I know they have telecommuting jobs from time to time, but it's worth looking outside the N.O. area as well. Base pay would be $50-$60K+
